Finding the Essence of Life - Interview with Dr. Leif P. Livingheart

In this episode of LIFE Voices I present a person ...

In this episode of LIFE Voices I present a person who is difficult to characterize with standard definitions. Leif is a former medical doctor from Austria who traveled the world as a nomad with his wife and children. He met many religious and spiritual paths and established his own way of thinking. I had the opportunity to meet him in Lindau, Germany, where he gave a talk shortly before Christmas. He speaks about his experiences in Tibet, explores his concept of healthy food, looks into the future of new technologies and, above all, always tries to be in his heart.

To Help The Voiceless - Interview with Abaynesh Asrat (Ethiopia)

Abaynesh Asrat was born in Ethiopia to a family that ...

Abaynesh Asrat was born in Ethiopia to a family that stressed four kinds of well-being: physical, emotional, spiritual and the well-being of one’s community. She brought these values with her when she left home to come to the United States for high school (Staple High School, West Port, Connecticut as American Field Service) The values nurtured by her family have never left her, and today inform the community work that has become the center of her life. In 2004, Abaynesh founded Nation-to-Nation Networking, Ltd (NNN), a non-profit organization that provides health, education and economic development programs for adolescent girls and their families in rural Ethiopia. In 2002, Abaynesh Asrat, as a board member and national fund raising chair for the Fistula Foundation, launched an initiative that galvanized the Ethiopian diaspora community in the US to support the construction of a new specialty hospital in Harar that will treat the devastating child birth injuries to adolescent mothers who marry early. The health care facility was opened on May 9, 2008. More information at www.NtoNNetworking.org. I had to chance to interview Abaynesh in New York this summer, where she revealed me her passion for Ethiopia and her relationship with Sri Chinmoy who met and lifted her in 2006. This is episode 19 of LIFE Voices.

I met Martin Vosseler in New York after he walked from Los Angeles to Boston in 7 1/2 months to mobilize the people about solar energy. A former doctor in Switzerland he felt a duty to inspire others and stopped his academic career. A year ago he crossed the Atlantic with a solar boat together with 4 other active scientists and adventurers. He proved that with the energy a hairdryer or a iron needs, you can run a whole boat with two electric motors — all the technical and kitchen equipment only with the energy of the available sunlight. After our interview he went back to Europe, but not by plane but on board a freightliner from Miami to Italy. He said he prefers not to use an airplane unless absolutely necessary. In his interview he reveals all about his econimical and spiritual approach to life. Enjoy this 18th episode of LIFE Voices!

Sister Madonna: Passion for God and Triathlons

I had the privilege to meet and interview an extraordinary ...

I had the privilege to meet and interview an extraordinary woman in New York. Sister Madonna is a 78 old catholic nun from Spokane, Washington, who was not only dedicating her life to her religious life but also made history in the running scene. At 52 she ran her first race, soon after she completed a marathon in less than 3 1/2 hours. Since then she has participated in 20 Hawaiian Ironman races and 300 Triathlons throughout the world. At 78 she is by far the fastest in her age category. The whole interview lasted for almost one hour and it was amazing and fascinating to hear her stories and learn about her experiences. It has never been so hard for me to edit an interview because each sentence expresses a feeling and reveals her passion for God as well as for the triathlon world. So I tried to condense the highlights into a 13-minute version illustrated with video footage from HBO as well as from members of our Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. This is Episode 15 of the monthly interview series "LIFE Voices".

Kyudo is not a sport, Kyudo is a Martial Art form, practised in Japan for centuries. When I was in Kamakura, I was able to visit a Kyudo Training School within one of the main temples of the town. Mamie Mayanaki from Toyko was so kind as to introduce us to this ancient art of Kyudo, where the archer is always in a meditative consciousness and follows a strict set of traditional ceremonies and guidelines. As Mamie states in her interview, you need to practise for 30 years or more to achieve perfection in this field. This Episode 10 of LIFE Voices.
